  • Verses To Help Strive For Good

God has created and redeemed you that through you – as through the sun He illuminates the world – He may shine His light and life and love on men.

Let us shine for our Lord, that we may draw others into His love.

Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world! (Philippians 2:14-15)

Let your gentleness be known to all men… (Philippians 4:5)

The Saints are the sinners who keep on trying.

Do all for the glory of God! (1 Corinthians 10:31)

A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition… (2 Timothy 2:25)

We exhort you… warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all… (1 Thessalonians 5:14-15).

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another; forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love – which binds them all together in perfect unity (Colossians 3:12-14).

Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you – that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. For He makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain to fall on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:44-45).

Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who persecute you. Give to everyone who asks of you; lend, hoping for nothing in return. And you will be sons of the Most High – for He is kind to the ungrateful and the evil (Luke 6:37-38).

Stay open-minded about people and single-minded about what we are to do.

Be merciful as your Father is merciful (Luke 6:36).

Aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands… that you may walk properly toward those who are outside (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12).

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control — against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23).

..Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any virtue/moral excellence, and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things (Philippians 4:8).

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for men; since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Jesus, the Christ, you are serving (Colossians 3:23-24).

For this is the will of God [for you] that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men (1 Peter 2:15).

Let your life portray the truth of what you say.

  • Verses To Help Us Shun Evil

Life as a Christian is simple, but not easy.

We must shun things that entice us to wander from His paths.

Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it (Psalm 34:13-14).

For the wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong he has done, and there is no favoritism (Colossians 3:25).

Hate evil, love good. Maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the Lord God Almighty will have mercy… (Amos 3:15)

A good man produces good things from his storeroom of good, and an evil man produces evil things from his storeroom of evil. I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to account for every careless word they speak! For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned (Matthew 12:35-37).

Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue (Proverbs 17:28).

But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:11-12).

Repay no one evil for evil; have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men (Romans 12:17-18).

We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves (Romans 15:1).

Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others (1 Corinthians 10:24).

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9).

He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you but to act justly, and to show mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

And now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but (1) to fear the Lord your God, (2) to walk in all His ways, (3) to love Him, (4) to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and (5) to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good? (Deuteronomy 10:12-13)

But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave you: (1) to love the Lord your God, (2) to walk in all His ways, (3) to obey His commands, (4) to hold fast to Him, and (5) to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul (Joshua 22:5).

Learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless; plead for the widow (Isaiah 1:17).

Do not grow weary in doing good. And if anyone does not obey our words in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed. YET do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother (2 Thessalonians 3:13-15).

For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving (1 Timothy 4:4).

Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Your speech should always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person (Colossians 4:5-6).

  • Turn Toward The Straight Path

As for me and my house – we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15). It is good to state God’s Word with conviction. Conviction is good to strengthen the soul.

Let us commit ourselves to following God’s enlightened paths.

Holiness adorns Your house, O Lord, forever (Psalm 93:5).

We can walk in obedience to God’s Word and live a life of holiness.  Whatever your sins, the Bible does have the answer – there is hope.  But holiness is not only expected of us; it is the promised birthright of every Christian!

For I am the Lord who brought you up/out from the land of Egypt [the place of your slavery] to be your God, so you must be holy because I am holy(Leviticus 11:45).

Certainly, sin shouldn’t have power over you because you are not controlled by laws, but by God’s favor (Romans 6:14).

To be holy is to be morally blameless – both separated from sin and consecrated to God.  (Jeff Bridges)

To do what is right and fair is more acceptable to the Lord than offering a sacrifice (Proverbs 21:3).

The way of life winds upward for the wise, that he may turn away from hell below (Proverbs 15:24).

By fear of the Lord one departs from evil (Proverbs 16:6).

Do not imitate what is evil, but what is good He who does good is of God. But he who does evil has not [yet] seen God (3 John 11).

For you were bought at a [high] price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are [both] God’s (1 Corinthians 6:20).

The spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing (John 6:63).

That servant who knew his Master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to His will, shall be beaten with many stripes! (Luke 12:47)

All the ways of a man [may be] pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit (Proverbs 16:2).

As in water face reflects face, so a man’s heart reveals the man (Proverbs 27:19).

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Mark 7:23).

Avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing they generate strife (2 Timothy 2:24).

Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babble and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge (1 Timothy 6:20).

Do not be rash with your mouth and let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few! (Ecclesiastes 5:2).

God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things – at all times, having all you need – you will abound in every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8).

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me. For I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls (Matthew 11:29).

  • The Beginning of Faith

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

Rely on God’s Word to build your faith.

If Your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.  I will never forget Your precepts, for by them You have preserved my life (Psalm 119:92-93).

Do not rejoice over me, o my enemy.  Though I fall, I will rise; though I dwell in darkness, the Lord is a light for me (Micah 7:8).

Remember Lazarus had been dead for so long he was stinking, but Jesus raise him from the dead.  One of the lessons we can learn from Lazarus is that no matter how long we have our problems, none [not you nor any of your problems] are too old for a resurrection.

Set me free from my prison that I may praise Your name.  Then the righteous will gather about me because of Your goodness to me (Psalm 142:7).

How do you get the genuine fresh air of God’s forgiveness?  By genuinely admitting to God that you have made a mistake, knowing that God loves you more than He hates your mistake, and knowing He will forgive those mistakes.  We are not perfect, Father, but we are Yours.

For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13-14).

Behold!  What manner of love the Father has bestowed on us that we should be called “Children of God” (1 John 3:1).

For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship; and by Him we cry “Abba, Father.”  The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.  Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may share in His glory (Romans 8:15-17).

Because we are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out “Abba, Father.”  So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son God has made you also an heir (Galatians 4:6-7).

God will do what is best for us.  But God doesn’t want to make us happy as much as He wants to make us holy.

Since a man’s steps are directed by the Lord, why then does anyone try to understand his own way?  (Proverbs 20:24)

Let no one despise your youth/age [or experience] but be an example to [other] believers; in word and deed, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity (1 Timothy 4:12).

God reveals Himself to those who search for Him.  God often communicates His desires for us by wise counsel of parents and mentors.

God helps us to avoid future mistakes by sending people to correct us.  When you are corrected, use the opportunity to learn and to improve your attitude.

Let each one examine his own works, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone and not in another (Galatians 6:4).

At some point in life, each one of us must decide what his/her highest joy is.  The thing that delights us is what directs us.

We don’t serve men, we serve God.  Have no expectations of men, they only disappoint.  Focus on a relationship with Jesus and there will be an overflow for others.

  • Growing In Faith

We do certain things because of faith – and because of faith we do certain things.  Faith is a state of mind that grows out of our actions, just as it governs our actions.

Grow in your faith by simply trusting God more.

A father cried out to his young son who was trapped in a burning house: “Jump, son!  I will catch you.”  The boy cried: “But daddy, I can’t see you.”  His father called back: “I know.  But I can see you.”

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him; for He knows how we are formed, He remembers that we are but dust (Psalm 103:13-14).

Yes, many a time He turned His anger away and did not stir up all His wrath.  For He remembered they were but flesh, a breath that passes away and does not come again (Psalm 78:38-40).

Man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work.  This, I see, is from the hand of God, for without God who can eat or find enjoyment? (Ecclesiastes 2:24-25)

No one can understand all the ways of God.  However, by studying the Bible and His creation, we can serve Him and find fulfillment in our work.

But as for me, it is good to be near God.  I have made the sovereign Lord my refuge.  I will tell of all Your deeds (Psalm 73:28).

We develop fortitude by repeatedly being tested and prevailing.  The more tests we pass, the tougher we become.  [+wiser] [+stronger] [+more useful]

Now therefore, O our God, the great and mighty and awesome God who keeps His covenant of love, do not let all this hardship seem trifling in Your eyes (Nehemiah 9:32).

Father, teach us not to minimize our struggles, but teach us to recognize any struggle we have is small in comparison to the Great God we serve.

The game of life is not so much in holding a good hand as in playing a poor hand well. (H. T. Leslie)

But now, O Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay and You our Potter.  All we are the work of Your hands (Isaiah 64:8).

Learn to see all that you have as a gift from God, to be used for Him, not for personal gain or pride.

    Resist pride.  Focus on Christ.

My very “I” is His image, not my own but on loan.

For we brought nothing into this world and it is certain we can carry nothing out.  And, having food and clothing, with these we shall be content (1 Timothy 6:7-8).

Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am to be content (Philippians 4:11).

Now godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6).

God expects all His people to use their gifts to do His will.  When they do, everyone benefits.

We are to sacrifice not our grains or our animals, but we are to give ourselves to God.  This sacrifice is not an act of atonement, neither is it a sin offering.  The sacrificing of our bodies to God is a thank offering.

For we are the Temple of the living God (2 Corinthians 6:16).

O Light of the World, teach me to stay so close in touch with You that I will be able to accurately reflect Your brightness.

  • To Walk As a Christian

For a brief effort you will receive an everlasting reward, and for a passing difficulty you will receive infinite glory.  It is ridiculous for you to expect to receive instantly what other saints have barely attained after many tears and great spiritual fatigue.  Wait patiently.  Control your behavior.  Take courage and never stop serving because of suffering or fear.

Let us walk without fear, trusting His love will uphold us.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore, we will not fear (Psalm 46:1-2).

Peace I leave you, My peace I give to you.  Not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).

Don’t look for rhyme or reason behind your pain; it cant’ be understood. [The purpose perhaps, or even the cause of it. But pain itself is a mystery of the human mind.]

And you, do not seek [by mediating and reasoning to inquire into] what you are to eat and what you are to drink; nor be of anxious (troubled) mind [unsettled, excited, worried, and in suspense]; … your Father knows that you need them.  Only aim at and strive for and seek His kingdom, and all these things shall be supplied to you also (Luke 12:29-31).

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).

God is for us, who can be against us [and win]? God is for us, we are not alone.

“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered.  “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”  And Elisha prayed: “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.”  (2 Kings 6:16).

Not all suffering is due to sin.  Some is just a result of living in a broken world.

So then banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless (Ecclesiastes 11:10).

When you face impossibilities, leave it in the hands of the Specialist.  Refuse to doubt.  Refuse to worry.  Right at the first say to God: “It’s impossible, I can’t handle it.  You are able and willing and anxious to do it.  Before I foul it up, take it – it’s Yours.”

I will remember the deeds of the Lord.  Yes, I will remember Your miracles of long ago.  I will meditate on all Your works and consider all Your mighty deeds (Psalm 77:11-12).

Do not be afraid of anything on your journey.  God will lead you by the hand, if only you are filled with love for Him rather than fear for yourself.

After Charlton Heston practiced charioting for a month, he concluded, “I think I can drive the horses and stay in the race, but I’m not sure I can win.”  To which Cecil B. DeMille said, “You just stay in the race; I’ll make sure you win.”   God tells us the same.

God prefers persistence over slothfulness.  He wants people to keep going forward; like a toddler learning to walk building muscles so one day he may run.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them.  Because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).

Even though the fig trees are all destroyed and there is neither blossom left nor fruit; even though the olive crops fail and fields are barren; even if flocks die and the cattle barns are empty – yet I will rejoice in the Lord!  I will be happy in God, my salvation.  For the Lord is my strength [to continue] and He will give me the speed of a deer and bring me safely over the mountains [of despair] (Habakkuk 3:17-19).

Since God is more moved by our heart than our eloquence, He responds.  That is what fathers do!  The power of prayer is in the One who hears, not the one who speaks.

The word worry comes from a word meaning “to divide.”  When we worry, we divide our energy.  Worry only compartmentalizes us and makes us unable to do what we set out to do.  If you are worried, you need to simply trust the Lord and do good.

Have faith in God (Mark 11:22).

  • Promises of Affection

Whatever you have lost, God will make it up to you if you place your trust in Him and refuse to try to collect what you feel is owed you by yourself. [Look at Joseph and Job.] (Joyce Meyer)

God has promised to never leave us, to always be with us in every trial.

You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory.  Whom have I in heaven but You?  And earth has nothing I desire besides You.  My flesh and my heart may fail but God is the strength of my spirit (Psalm 73:24-26).

Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will take me in (Psalm 27:10).

How precious concerning me are Your thoughts, O God!  How vast the sum of them!  Were I to count them they would outnumber the grains of sand!       (Psalm 139:17-18)

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed (Proverbs 16:3).

Commit your way to the Lord.  Trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass (Psalm 37:5).

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows is God in His holy dwelling.  God sets the lonely in families (Psalm 68:5-6).

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sin and lawless deeds I will remember no more (Jeremiah 31:34).

“[Even if] the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet My unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor My covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord who has compassion on you (Isaiah 54:10).

You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You (Isaiah 26:3).

For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: in repentance and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength (Isaiah 30:15).

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  [He] will say of the Lord “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust” (Psalm 91:1-2).

O may Thy loving-kindness comfort me, according to Thy word to Thy servant (Psalm 119:76).

Who am I, O Lord God?  And what is my house that You have brought me this far?  (1 Chronicles 17:16)

“I will give your life to you as a prize.  In all places, wherever you go – should you then seek great things for yourself?  Seek them not. For I will bring disaster on all people,” declares the Lord, “but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life (Jeremiah 45:5).

Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored and I have loved you.  Therefore I will give men for you and people for your life (Isaiah 43:4).

Even to your old age, I am He – and even to gray hairs I will carry you.  I have made and I will bear; even I will carry you and will deliver you (Isaiah 46:4).

“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord of Hosts (Zechariah 4:6).

If You, O Lord kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?  But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared (Psalm 130:3-4).

Eye has not seen nor ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9).

Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth (Psalm 124:8).

Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit (2 Corinthians 7:1).

  • Promises For Endurance

The Bible reveals that God has a plan for every life.  And if we live in constant fellowship with Him, He will direct and lead us in the fulfillment of that plan.

God’s ways are not burdensome. They only look that way before we actually start following them.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for You are with me (Psalm 23:4).

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways (Psalm 37:7).

But the Lord is faithful who will establish you and guard you from the evil one (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

I would have lost heart unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! (Psalm 27:13)

I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety (Psalm 4:8).

News of misfortune will have no terrors for him [who fears the Lord], because his heart is steadfast trusting in the Lord.  His confidence is well established, he has no fear, and in the end he will see the downfall of his enemies (Psalm 112:7-8).

For He has delivered me out of all my troubles, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes (Psalm 54:7).

The Lord will be your everlasting light and your days of sorrow will end (Isaiah 60:20).

The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me.  Your love, O Lord, endures forever.  Do not abandon the work of Your hands (Psalm 138:8).

Come, let us return to the Lord… as surely as the sun rises He will appear.  He will come to us…  (Hosea 6:1, 3)

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31).

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint (Jeremiah 31:25).

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak (Isaiah 40:29).

God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble (Proverbs 3:34).

He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with good things (Psalm 107:9).

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with kindness and mercy, who satisfies your mouth with good things so your youth is renewed like the eagle’s (Psalm 103:2-5).

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord.  “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you.  Plans to give you a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

Fear not for I am with you.  Be not dismayed for I am your God.  I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you.  I will uphold you with My righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10).

I am the Lord your God who brought you up out of [slavery].  Open wide your mouth and I will fill it (Psalm 81:10).

The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you.  He will never leave you nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid.  Do not be discouraged (Deuteronomy 31:8).

Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom!  (Luke 12:32)

  • Promises For Deliverance

Faith teaches us how to turn promises into psalms of praise and proverbs of wisdom.

God has promised to guide us and help us. Cling to His promises!

I rise before dawn and cry for help, I have put my hope in Your Word.  My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on Your promises (Psalm 119:147-148).

My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life (Psalm 119:50).

He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy (Job 8:21).

Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you shall glorify Me…  Whoever offers praise glorifies Me (Psalm 50:15, 23).

The Lord redeems His servants, no one will be condemned who takes refuge in Him (Psalm 34:22).

A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all (Psalm 34:19).

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their cry…  The righteous cry out and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles (Psalm 34:15, 17).

The Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials (2 Peter 2:9).

The righteous man is rescued from trouble (Proverbs 11:8).

For every sigh, God has a psalm.

The Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to Him…  (Deuteronomy 4:7)

For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime!  Weeping may remain for a night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5).

Come let us return to the Lord; for He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up (Hosea 6:1).

But for you who revere My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings…  (Malachi 4:2)

When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, He makes even his enemies live at peace with him (Proverbs 16:7).

God will wipe away all tears from their eyes (Revelation 7:17).

The Lord will keep you from harm – He will watch over your life (Psalm 121:7).

From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and You listened to my cry (Jonah 2:1).

I sought the Lord and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.  Those who look to Him are radiant, their faces are never covered with shame (Psalm 34:4-5).

This poor man cried out and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.  The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them (Psalm 34:6-7).

Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know (Jeremiah 33:3).

  • Seeking Truth

Scripture will make you wise; wiser than people around you.  Notice I said wiser, not more knowledgeable.  A wise man is one who can distinguish what is fundamental from what is trivial; who knows what life is about and who acts appropriately, whatever the circumstances.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed rightly dividing the Word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

Knowledge is facts.  Wisdom is dealing with facts for the good of all concerned.

The entirety of Your Word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever (Psalm 119:160).

The unfolding of Your Word gives light.  It gives understanding [even] to the simple (Psalm 119:130).

If you look for truth you may find comfort in the end.  If you look for comfort you will find neither comfort nor truth – only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin with, and in the end, despair.   (C. S. Lewis)

Your Word is truth (John 17:17).

Everything God says is truth.  We can believe that.  And because we are made in His image, we need to know that what we say will come to pass!  Therefore: watch your words!

Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit (Psalm 34:13).

Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from trouble (Proverbs 21:23).

He who guards his lips guards his life… (Proverbs 13:3)

Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord.  Keep watch over the door of my lips (Psalm 141:3).

Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in Your law (Psalm 119:18).

Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105).

Let Your compassion come to me that I may live, for Your law is my delight (Psalm 119:77).

How can a young man keep his way pure?  By living according to Your Word (Psalm 119:9).

Jesus did not come to abolish the old law and give a new one.  He came to redefine the law – so we understood it was meant for our hearts, not our minds.

They are not just idle words for you.  They are your life!  By them you will live in the land (Deuteronomy 32:47).

Send forth Your light and Your truth, let them guide me.  Let them bring me to Your holy mountain, to the place where You dwell (Psalm 43:3).

For God (who said “Let light shine out of darkness”) made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of His knowledge: of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6).

The man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom and continues to do this – not forgetting what he has heard but doing it – he will be blessed in what he does (James 1:25).

Do not let this book of the Law depart from your mouth.  Meditate on it day and night, so you may be careful to do everything written in it.  Then you will be prosperous and successful (Joshua 1:8).

Make us aware of how precious Your Word is.  Bless those who transport it to far-off places.  Thank You, Father, for giving us this source of light and strength, and for the opportunities to uncover the jewels waiting to be discovered in Your pages.
