Love the Lord your God with all your heart [emotionally], and with all your soul [spiritually], and with all your mind [mentally], and with all your strength [physically]… Love your neighbor as yourself [practically/socially]. There is no commandment greater than these. (Mark 12:30-31)
Love for God is a deliberate setting of your will to carry out His commands at any cost. It is not a sweet emotion that falls on you in a special moment of spiritual piety. This kind of love is a fixed attitude of the heart delighting to accomplish His purposes no matter how challenging. This kind of love is truly what He deserves. Think of all His love He bestows on us…
In love, [God] predestined us for adoption to son-ship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will (Ephesians 1:4-5). Because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ (Ephesians 2:4-5). And I pray that you, being rooted and established in [this] love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge (Ephesians 3:17-19).
To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices (Mark 12:33).
For we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). No eye has seen… no ear has heard… no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9).
May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance (2 Thessalonians 3:5).
