Natural must be turned into spiritual by sacrifice – or a tremendous divorce will be produced. God doesn’t order this, but permits it. God ordered the natural transformed by obedience. Unless we are willing to postpone gratification and patiently seek higher goals, we will be slaves to our whims and appetites and the perilous consequences they bring. Self-denial refines the soul, sharpens the senses, strengthens the will, and tempers the desires.
You are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God (1 Pet 2:5). Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – for this is your spiritual act of worship (Romans 12:1).
Good manners are made up of petty sacrifices. It is very important to remember: Sacrifice is the currency of the kingdom.
We all have gone through many trials, but never to our detriment – always to our betterment. Remember this next time you doubt. Every time you face suffering, yes, you are on trial; but so is the Almighty One. He must come forth also, for His name is at stake in your life.
Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased (Hebrews 13:16). Live a life of love – just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us – [do it] as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God (Ephesians 5:2).
Give yourself away! Usually we only sacrifice ourselves one teaspoon at a time.
