The only antidote to covetousness is contentment. Covetousness can hit us in the face any time we turn around; if we let it. The world has a spirit of greed today. But as a Christian, we need to grow to a point that it doesn’t take material things to make us happy. We can wake up happy each day just because we know Jesus is alive!
I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything though Him who gives me strength (Philippians 4:12-13). For Godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6).
We need as much as will make us physically, mentally, and spiritually fit for the purposes of the kingdom of God. Anything beyond that belongs to someone else’s needs. No one can decide for you what your needs are; that must be worked out between you and God. Also remember that needs contribute to your health whereas luxury (excess beyond need) chokes.
