  • A Prayer of Worship

You are worthy, O Lord God Almighty, to receive glory and honor and power, because You have created all things and for Your pleasure they are and were created (Revelation 4:11).

Come! Let us worship the God of splendor and holiness.

Blessed be your glorious name and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you (Nehemiah 9:5-6).

May You be praised, Lord God of Israel, our Father forever and ever! Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is Yours.  Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and You are exalted as head over all things.  In Your hand is power and might, and in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength unto all.  Now therefore, my God, I thank You and I praise Your glorious name (1 Chronicles 29:10-13).

Father, You are seeking true worshipers, who will worship You in spirit and in truth (John 4:23).  I will be such a worshiper, because I love You with all my heart, and soul, and mind, and strength (Mark 12:30).  Through Christ Jesus therefore, I will offer the sacrifice of praise to You continually –that is, the fruit of my lips — giving thanks to Your Holy and Mighty name.  (Hebrews 13:15).

Worship the Lord your God, and His blessing will be on your food and water (Exodus 23:25). The Lord, who brought you up out of Egypt with mighty power and outstretched arm, is the one you must worship. To Him you shall bow down and to Him offer sacrifices… It is He who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies (2 Kings 17:36, 39).

Come, let us bow down in worship; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care (Psalm 95:6). Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs (Psalm 100:2). Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name… worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness (1 Chronicles 16:29).

Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:28-29). Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship (Romans 12:1).

Great and marvelous are Your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are Your ways, King of the Ages. Who will not fear You, O Lord, and bring glory to Your name? For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed. (Revelation 15:3-4). Worship God! (Revelation 19:10)

  • Praying For the Joy of the Lord

My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed.  I will sing and give praise.  I will wake up early and praise You, O Lord, among Your people (Psalm 57:7-9).  I will rejoice in You always, Lord (Philippians 4:4).

Your joy, O Lord, bubbles up within my soul, from the inner wellspring that comes from knowing You. Your joy floods my spirit, soul, and body.  It fills my mind with happiness.

Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You, O Lord my Redeemer. I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods, and with singing lips my mouth will praise You. (Psalm 63:3-5)

Blessed be Your name from this time forth and forever more.  From the rising of the sun to its going down, Your name will be praised (Psalm 113:2-3).

Let the nations be glad and sing joyfully because You judge everyone with justice and guide the nations on the earth (Psalm 67:4).

Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob (Psalms 81:1). With joy we will draw water from the springs of salvation (Isaiah 12:3).  We will have everlasting joy (Isaiah 61:7).

Come, let us bow down in worship. Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker (Psalm 95:6). Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; Let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation (Psalm 95:1).

Like a fountain that springs from the depths of the earth, Your joy rises and fills me; then flows forth from my life and touches all those who cross my path.

Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our day (Psalm 90:14).

Sing joyfully to the Lord, all you who are righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him (Psalm 33:1). They will celebrate Your abundant goodness, O God, and joyfully sing of Your righteousness (Psalm 145:7).

It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High. To declare Your loving-kindness in the morning and Your faithfulness every night (Psalm 92:1-2).

Your joy goes so much deeper than anything this world has to offer. Thank You for the joy You have imparted to me.  You are my highest joy, and You are my delight.

I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart. I will glorify Your name forever (Psalm 86:12). I will praise Your name in song and glorify You with thanksgiving (Psalm 69:30). For You, O Lord, have made me glad by what You have done. I will sing for joy at the work of Your hands (Psalm 92:4).

O Lord, Mighty God, I will rejoice in You with praises.  I will bless You at all times.  Your praise will be continually in my mouth (Psalm 34:1).  I will always be joyful… Whatever happens, I give thanks because it is God’s will in Christ Jesus that I do this (1 Thessalonians 5:16, 18).

Let me go to the altar of God, to God my highest joy, and I will give thanks to You on the lyre, O God, my God (Psalm 43:4).  The joy I have in the Lord is my strength (Nehemiah 8:10).

My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior… His mercy is on those who fear Him (Luke 1:46-47, 50). I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being! (Psalm 104:33)

  • A Missing Ingredient

Praise God for His promises and the limitlessness of prayer.

Praising God for everything in our lives produces joy in our spirits.

I noticed the missing ingredient in my prayers had been thanksgiving.  So I spent time worshiping God for who He is and what He is.  This subject of ‘Who God Is’ covers more territory than any mortal can comprehend.  Yet even contemplating what little we do know dissolves doubts, reinforces faith, and restores joy.

What do praise and thanksgiving accomplish?  The world begins to look different.  Praise is an affirmation of a basic truth: God is good all the time.  Praise is the recognition that life – all of it – needs to be accepted with gratitude.

Kay Arthur tells us that if the Lord’s Prayer is the pattern for all prayer, then through it we can learn vital truths regarding some prerequisites for effective prayer. She says prayer begins with worship of the Father. To worship is to acknowledge His worth, to give Him the honor and reverence due Him.

At the end of the seven time periods, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven, and my mind came back to me; I thanked the Most High, and I praised and honored the One who lives forever, because His power lasts forever and His kingdom lasts from one generation to the next. Everyone who lives on earth is nothing compared to Him. He does whatever He wishes with the army of heaven and with those who live on earth. There is no one who can oppose Him or ask Him, “What are you doing?” (Daniel 4:34-35).

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, will praise, honor and give glory to the King of Heaven. Everything He does is true, His ways are right, and He can humiliate those who act arrogantly (Daniel 4:37).

Who would not fear You, O King of the Nations? For this is Your rightful due. Among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You… My Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King (Jeremiah 10:7, 10). From everlasting to everlasting, You are God (Psalm 90:2)!

Thus, Jesus begins by reminding us of the supremacy of the One who lives in the third heaven and controls all the affairs of the universe.

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty. For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord God, and You are exalted as head over all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; in Your hand is it to make great and give strength (1 Chronicles 29:11-12).

  • With His Spirit

The Father seeks worshipers; our worship satisfies His loving heart. Our first lesson must be to understand what it is to pray in spirit and in truth. It is only in and through Jesus (the “time is now” fulfillment) that the worship of God will be in spirit and truth. So into this class we seek to be admitted, to be taught of Him how to worship the Father. (Andrew Murray, School of Prayer)

Of ourselves we are unable to worship God as He deserves. But He craves our individual unique worship.

The Time is coming, and it is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. The Father is looking for people like that to worship Him. God is spirit. Those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24).

There must be harmony between God (who is Spirit) and His worshipers. The eye has a fitness for light, the ear for sound, but worship is not bound by space or time, place or form. The inner spirit is the only way to worship the unseen God.

This spirit type of worship must come from God Himself. God alone has Spirit to give. He sent His Son to fit us for spiritual worship, to baptize with the Holy Spirit. The worship of the Father is only possible to those to whom the Spirit of the Son has been given. It is only Christ Jesus who opens the way and teaches to worship in spirit.

God’s Word is Truth, and Jesus came to give us grace and truth. In Him the blessings and powers of eternal life can be our possession and experience. We are carnal and cannot bring God the worship He seeks, but Jesus came to show us the way and enable us to give God the worship that pleases Him.

This is the new and living way – to have Christ Jesus dwelling within us, and revealing the Father to us, this makes us true spiritual worshipers.

  • Come, Let Us Worship Together

But the hour is coming and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him (John 4:23).

May my heart show compassion and my words thanksgiving; and like the rest of the universe and all creation, may my very being sing praises to our God.

Arise! Shine! For your light has come! The glory of the Lord rises upon you! (Isaiah 60:1)

God gave you the world – enjoy it.  (Max Lucado)

Because Your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live. I will lift up my hands in Your holy name (Psalm 63:3-4).

Come, let us bow down in worship. Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker (Psalm 95:6).

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; Let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation (Psalm 95:1).

You make me glad by Your deeds, O Lord. I sing for joy at the works of Your hands (Psalm 92:4)

Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our day (Psalm 90:14).

Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob (Psalms 81:1).

Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him (Psalm 33:1).

They will celebrate Your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of Your righteousness (Psalm 145:7).

It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High. To declare Your loving-kindness in the morning and Your faithfulness every night (Psalm 92:1-2).

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being! (Psalm 104:33)

My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior… His mercy is on those who fear Him (Luke 1:46-47, 50).

Worship is the thank you that refuses to be silenced.

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting! And let all the peoples say “Amen!” (Psalm 106:48)

We will not hide them from our children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done! (Psalm 78:4)

Let those who take refuge in You be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread Your protection over them that those who love Your name may rejoice in You (Psalm 5:11).

Rejoice in the Lord always! Again I say: rejoice! (Philippians 4:4)

May my meditations be pleasing to Him as I rejoice in the Lord (Psalm 104:34).

Rejoice before the Lord your God in everything you put your hand to (Deuteronomy 12:18).

Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! (Revelation 19:7)

Rejoice always! Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

May the Lord’s face radiate with joy because of you! (Numbers 6:25 TLB).

  • Let Us Return to Praising Him

Our task is not to try and understand the world and His plan, or even all creation; our task is but to reflect the spirit of the Creator and sing His praises.

You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation [a people set apart]. His own special people that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).

Praise and give thanks to God continually, in all ways on all days, regardless of your circumstances. (Bill Bright).

Sing to God, sing praises to His name; cast up a highway for Him who rides through [our] deserts – His name is the Lord (Psalm 68:4).

Praising God for troubles ends them. Praising God for blessings extends them.

Let God be magnified! (Psalm 70:4)

Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. Praise be to His glorious name forever. May the whole earth be filled with His glory (Psalm 72:18-19).

Praise God for His solution to the problem.  Instead of focusing on yourself and your problem, focus on God’s care for you.

You have turned my mourning into dancing. You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness to the end that my glory may sing praises to You, and not be silent! O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You… (Psalm 30:11-12)

O Lord God, You have [only] begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your mighty hand! For what God is there in heaven or on earth who can do anything like Your works and Your mighty deeds? (Deuteronomy 3:24).

Stop and consider God’s wonders!  (Job 37:14)

Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4).

How great are Your works, O Lord.  How profound Your thoughts!  (Psalm 92:5)

I will sing to the Lord for He has been good to me (Psalm 13:6).

How can I repay the Lord for all His goodness to me? (Psalm 116:12)

Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you (Psalm 116:7)

Are you looking for a miracle? Then open your eyes cause there’s one that happens every morning just around sunrise.

It is God alone that one takes seriously. But to take God seriously is to find joy and spontaneity in everything, for everything is a gift and a grace.

The conviction of God’s grace results in expressions of joy!

He has put a new song in my mouth: Praise to our God. Many will see it and fear and will trust in the Lord [through my praises]. (Psalm 40:3)

A merry heart does good, like medicine (Proverbs 17:22).

He who is of a merry heart has a continual feast (Proverbs 15:15).

A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance (Proverbs 15:13).

I have learned in whatever state I am to be content (Philippians 4:11).

  • Study On Joy

To increase your joy seek God’s presence.  Your joy is a gift from God to you – if you lose it, it is your job to find it, and not let it escape again.  Depression, sickness, despair – most any problem can be overcome with remembering our joy.  Our singing can shut the devil up and drive him away.  Make a joyful noise!  Even if you can’t sing, God will like it.

    Creation expresses joy.

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; and let men say among the nations, the Lord reigns! (1 Chronicles 16:31)

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice … then shall all the trees of the wood sing for joy (Psalm 96:11-12).

Sing, O Heavens, for the Lord has done it!  Shout you lower parts of the earth; Break forth into singing, you mountains… (Isaiah 44:23)

Shout joyfully to God, all the Earth! (Psalm 66:1)

Shout joyfully before the King, the Lord (Psalm 98:6).

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth!  Serve the Lord with gladness.  Come before Him with joyful singing (Psalm 100:1-2).

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises (Psalm 98:4).

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy… (Psalm 67:4)

Sing for joy to God our Strength; shout joyfully to the God of Jacob (Psalm 81:1).

Shout for joy, O Heavens!  And rejoice, O Earth!  Break forth into joyful shouting, O Mountains! (Isaiah 49:13)

Burst into songs of joy together… for the Lord has comforted His people… (Isaiah 52:9)

Therefore rejoice, you Heavens! … (Revelation 12:12)

The morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy! (Job 38:7)

You make the dawn and sunset shout for joy! (Psalm 65:8)

I [wisdom] was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in His presence; rejoicing in His whole world and delighting in mankind (Proverbs 8:30-31).

  • Knowing The God We Serve

Another book that is out on public domain is A. W. Tozer’s Knowledge Of The Holy. In it we get a very good idea of the God we are supposed to be worshiping, the God we just surrendered ourselves to. I will try to sum up Tozer’s thoughts on this subject.

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”

The Church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God. We have lost our spirit of worship and our ability to withdraw inwardly to meet God in adoring silence. It is impossible to keep our moral practices sound and our inward attitudes right while our idea of God is erroneous or inadequate. If we would bring back spiritual power to our lives we must begin to think of God more nearly as He really is. Let us be encouraged to begin the practice of reverent meditation on the being of our God.

A right concept of God is basic… to practical Christian living. The man who comes to a right belief about God is relieved of ten thousand temporal problems, for these [any temporal problems] have to do with matters which at the most cannot concern him for very long. But one mighty single burden of eternity begins to press down upon him: his obligation to God.

No matter how we try to perceive God, He is still God and we are not. We must forever remember the original — and still primary — sin was to try to become like God in terms of knowledge and understanding. We are to get to know God, but we will never fully know [everything there is to know] about Him. We are to take on His character, but we cannot approach His majesty. This is both exciting and frustrating. But the promise remains that one day we will be like Him and see Him as He is.

The philosopher and the scientist will admit that there is much that they do not know; but that is quite another thing from admitting that there is something which they can never know. To admit that there is One who lies beyond us, who exists outside of all our categories, who will not be dismissed with a name, who will not appear before the bar of our reason, nor submit to our curious inquiries — this requires a great deal of humility.

We are the handiwork of God; all our problems and their solutions are theological. Some knowledge of what kind of God it is that operates the universe is indispensable to a sound philosophy of life and a sane outlook on the world.
