  • A Prayer to Speak Truth

I have chosen the way of Truth; I have set my heart on Your laws (Psalm 119:30). Blessed are they who do not doubt the Lord (Matthew 11:6).

To some, God’s Word is prickly. But to those who see its beauty, it is a faithful companion.

Father, I commit myself to walk in Your Word.  Your Word living in me produces Your life in this world.  I recognize that Your Word is integrity itself – steadfast, sure, eternal (Psalm 119:89). The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), and I trust my life to its provisions.  They are not just idle words for me. They are my life! By them I will live in the land (Deuteronomy 32:47).

You have sent Your Word forth into my heart.  I will let it dwell in me richly in all wisdom (Colossians 3:16).  I have been born anew of incorruptible seed, that is – the living and enduring Word of God (1 Peter 1:23).  Through Your great and precious promises, I can share in the Your divine nature and escape corruption from sinful desires (2 Peter 1:4).

I choose to agree with Your Word, O Lord, and I choose to disagree with any thoughts, conditions, or circumstances contrary to Your Word. Jesus, In Your name and with Your strength and wisdom, I will learn to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). I boldly and confidently say that my heart is fixed and established on the solid foundation – the Living Word of God.

Your Word of truth is my counsel, my shield, my buckler (Psalm 91:4), and my powerful weapon in battle (Ephesians 6:17).  Please direct my footsteps according to Your Word (Psalm 119:133), that I may go on my way in safety, for I trust in Your Word (Psalm 119:42).

Let my prayer be set forth as incense before You, the lifting of my hands as the evening sacrifice (Psalm 141:2).  He who brings an offering of praise and thanksgiving honors and glorifies You; and he who orders his way aright, to him You will demonstrate the salvation of God (Psalm 50:23).  Therefore, set a guard over my mouth, O Lord, keep watch over the door of my lips (Psalm 141:3).  My mouth shall be filled with Your praise and with Your honor all day long (Psalm 71:8).  Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You, so will I bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name (Psalm 63:3-4).

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His Word I put my hope (Psalm 130:5). Lord God, put Your words into my mouth and cover me in the shadow of Your hand (Isaiah 51:16). Heavenly Father, please give me the tongue of the learned that I may know how to speak a word of truth in season to him who is weary (Isaiah 50:4).

  • Seeking Truth

Scripture will make you wise; wiser than people around you.  Notice I said wiser, not more knowledgeable.  A wise man is one who can distinguish what is fundamental from what is trivial; who knows what life is about and who acts appropriately, whatever the circumstances.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed rightly dividing the Word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

Knowledge is facts.  Wisdom is dealing with facts for the good of all concerned.

The entirety of Your Word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever (Psalm 119:160).

The unfolding of Your Word gives light.  It gives understanding [even] to the simple (Psalm 119:130).

If you look for truth you may find comfort in the end.  If you look for comfort you will find neither comfort nor truth – only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin with, and in the end, despair.   (C. S. Lewis)

Your Word is truth (John 17:17).

Everything God says is truth.  We can believe that.  And because we are made in His image, we need to know that what we say will come to pass!  Therefore: watch your words!

Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit (Psalm 34:13).

Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from trouble (Proverbs 21:23).

He who guards his lips guards his life… (Proverbs 13:3)

Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord.  Keep watch over the door of my lips (Psalm 141:3).

Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in Your law (Psalm 119:18).

Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105).

Let Your compassion come to me that I may live, for Your law is my delight (Psalm 119:77).

How can a young man keep his way pure?  By living according to Your Word (Psalm 119:9).

Jesus did not come to abolish the old law and give a new one.  He came to redefine the law – so we understood it was meant for our hearts, not our minds.

They are not just idle words for you.  They are your life!  By them you will live in the land (Deuteronomy 32:47).

Send forth Your light and Your truth, let them guide me.  Let them bring me to Your holy mountain, to the place where You dwell (Psalm 43:3).

For God (who said “Let light shine out of darkness”) made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of His knowledge: of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6).

The man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom and continues to do this – not forgetting what he has heard but doing it – he will be blessed in what he does (James 1:25).

Do not let this book of the Law depart from your mouth.  Meditate on it day and night, so you may be careful to do everything written in it.  Then you will be prosperous and successful (Joshua 1:8).

Make us aware of how precious Your Word is.  Bless those who transport it to far-off places.  Thank You, Father, for giving us this source of light and strength, and for the opportunities to uncover the jewels waiting to be discovered in Your pages.

  • Let Us Seek Wisdom

“Christ” = literally “The Word” meaning the Messiah, the wisdom and power of God and the first cause of all things; God’s personal expression of Himself to man. (The Living Bible, note on John 1:1)

Let us seek God’s Wisdom, since He created the universe around us.

“God is with us”. When I walk with this knowledge, I find that even though all of life is the same, everything is different.

Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, all who follow His precepts have good understanding. To Him belongs eternal praise (Psalm 111:10).

“I owe no one anything,” God declares. “Everything is mine.” God owes no explanations, no excuses, no help, no favors, nor debts. — But He still gives.

Grace = God’s work; His idea; His expense; His discretion.

For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly – as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith (Romans 12:3).

For if anyone thinks himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself (Galatians 6:3).

By shear faith in Christ Jesus we gain access to all God’s treasures: joy, peace, wisdom, eternal life… (What is left?)

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him (James 1:5).

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, instruction in righteousness – that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Scripture will make you wise; wiser than people around you. Notice I said wiser, not more knowledgeable. A wise man is one who can distinguish what is fundamental from what is trivial; who knows what life is about and who acts appropriately whatever the circumstances.

Thus says the Lord: “let not the wise man glory in his wisdom; let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches. But let him who glories glory in this: that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, exercising loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord (Jeremiah 9:23-24).

All that is physical is passing away. As long as I keep holding on to it, I continually set myself up for disappointment. If all I see is how you look and what you have, I will miss the point that you – like me – are a hurting spirit looking for home.

Put on the new self which is being renewed in knowledge – into the image of its creator (Colossians 3:10).

The Bible reveals God has a plan for every life, and if we live in constant fellowship with Him, He will direct and lead us in the fulfillment of that plan.

Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him (Luke 8:18).

God transformed you into a new person — live like it!

  • What Is Truth?

It is good to remember that conventional wisdom is usually concerned with justifying itself, not with finding truth. (Rev F. Everding)

God’s Word is all we need.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

Send forth Your light and Your truth. Let them guide me; let the bring me to Your holy mountain, to the place where You dwell (Psalm 43:3).

Your Word is truth (John 17:17).

God’s economy is upside down from ours! God says: the more hopeless your circumstances, the more likely your salvation; the greater your cares, the more genuine your prayers; the darker the room, the more need for light.

Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in Your law (Psalm 119:18).

Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105).

The unfolding of Your Word gives light, it gives understanding to the simple (Psalm 119:130).

Turn or burn. Turn and learn.

The entirety of Your Word is truth, and everyone of Your righteous judgments endures forever (Psalm 119:160).

Give ear and come to Me; hear Me, that your soul may live (Isaiah 55:3).

The Ten Commandments were given for us to enjoy life better, not to make it worse.

Jesus did not come to abolish the old law and give a new one. He came to redefine the law — so we understand it was meant for our hearts, not our minds.

That you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days (Deuteronomy 30:20).

They are not just idle words for you — they are your life! By them you will live in the land (Deuteronomy 32:47).

God deserves the best we can give: our finest possessions, our most valuable articles, our precious time.

We live in an age which everything is working against the things we hold dear… In this evil day, we need constant reminders of the Truth. If we are not careful with our time, we will allow others to fill it up for us, and there will be none for God.
