  • Our Creativity

You are the offspring of the One who said: I AM WHO I AM and LET THERE BE LIGHT. Being created in God’s Image means we have the ability to speak, think, and be creative. Let us use these precious gifts wisely.

Let us be cautious. Our words could be helpful … or hurtful.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit [sour or sweet] (Proverbs 18:21).

See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defies the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell! … No one can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison (James 3:5-8).

Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord.  Keep watch over the door of my lips.  Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil (Psalm 141:3).

I will keep my tongue from evil and my lips from speaking deceit (Psalm 34:13).

He who guards his mouth preserves his life (Proverbs 13:3).

Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from trouble (Proverbs 21:23).

I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin.  I will put a muzzle over my mouth as long as the wicked are before me (Psalm 39:1).

Do not be quick with your mouth.  Do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before/against God.  God is in heaven and you are on earth.  So let your words be few (Ecclesiastes 5:2).

He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit (Proverbs 17:27).

Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue (Proverbs 17:28).

Avoid godless chatter because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly (2 Timothy 2:16).

Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed. Save me and I will be saved. For You are my praise! (Jeremiah 17:14).

May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer (Psalm 19:14).

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers (Ephesians 4:29).

Every word of God is pure! (Proverbs 30:5)

Establish Your Word to Your servant, O Lord, who is devoted to fearing You (Psalm 119:38).

I hide Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You (Psalm 119:11).

If I speak, let me speak the very words of God.

Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and is profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord. In the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up (Psalm 5:3).

  • Seeking Wisdom

God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight and a breath of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore [simply because he was humble enough to ask] (1 Kings 4:29).

I [wisdom] love those who love me, and those who seek me [diligently] find me (Proverbs 8:17).

I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion (Proverbs 8:12).

Be mature enough to realize you still have much to learn.  Be wise enough to know “respect” is something you earn.

Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing…  Wisdom preserves the life of its possessor (Ecclesiastes 7:11-12)

Wisdom is better than weapons of war…  (Ecclesiastes 9:18)

Wisdom makes one wise man more powerful than ten rulers in a city (Ecclesiastes 7:19).

The price of wisdom is beyond rubies (Job 28:18).

But where can wisdom be found?  Where does understanding dwell?  Man does not comprehend its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living [the natural world] (Job 28.12-13).

Is not wisdom found among the aged?  Does not long life bring understanding? (Job 12:12).

Wisdom cannot be measured in birthdays.

It is good to remember that conventional wisdom is usually concerned with justifying itself, not with finding truth. (Rev. F. Everding)

When pride comes, then comes disgrace.   But with humility comes wisdom (Proverbs 11:2).

For the Lord gives wisdom and from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding (Proverbs 2:6).

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given… (James 1:5)

For in Christ Jesus neither [good nor bad, black nor white] means anything; what matters is faith working through love (Galatians 5:6).

  • Temperance Is Highly Prized

Temperament has a great deal to do with our religious views and with the emphases we lay on spiritual matters generally… The Scriptures, critical self-discipline, honesty of heart, and increased trust in the inward operations of the Holy Spirit will save us from being too greatly influenced by temperament. (A. W. Tozer)

A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered (Proverbs 17:27).

A patient man has great understanding, but a quick tempered man displays folly (Proverbs 14:29).

A wise man fears the Lord and shuns evil, but a fool is hot-tempered and reckless (Proverbs V 14:16).

A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control (Proverbs 29:11).

    A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty… (Proverbs 19:19)

Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man; do not associate with one easily angered, for you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared (Proverbs 22:24-25).

Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife (Proverbs 21:19).

Better a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city (Proverbs 16:32).

All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man.  But no man can tame the tongue!  It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. (James 3:7-8)

  • Discipline Is Not a Bad Thing

Be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. (Titus 1:7-8)

He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding (Proverbs 15:32).

Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him (Proverbs 22:15).

Discipline your son and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul (Proverbs 29:17).

  • A Warning

Be warned! Once you delve into speaking God’s Words, you MUST commit to ordering all other conversations aright (Proverbs 4:24). You cannot pray effectively for yourself or someone else, and then talk negatively about the matter (Matthew 12:34-37). For instance, you tell the universe that by Jesus’ stripes you are healed, then an inkling comes on you and the first thing you, as all humans tend to do, is to go and tell a spouse or neighbor (or even ourselves in a mirror) that you think you’re catching a cold. You just negated your confession! Be warned: this is the devil’s main line of attack.  Proverbs 6:2 says we are trapped by our own words.

Understand this: Words work.  They are working FOR you or AGAINST you, whether you realize it or not.  We have programmed our vocabulary with the devil’s language.  We have brought sickness and disease into our vocabulary, and even death.  “I’m just dying to do that” and “That just tickles me to death” or “That’s going to be the death of you!”  Hebrews 2:14 tells us death is of the devil.  Proverbs 10:11, 21, and 24 warn you that the thing you fear will come upon you, all you have to do is voice it out loud.  Fear will activate the devil.

Put a stop to idle and foolish talk (Ephesians 4:27, 5:4). You are to be a blessing to others (Galatians 6:10). Your desire should be to please and to bless the Father:

Let no foul or polluted language, nor any evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it. (Ephesians 4:29 Amplified).

Meditate hard and store up God’s Word in your heart. This is your job This is God’s plan for you. This is all you need to survive and thrive and live in victory on this earth.

So speak God’s Word out loud with confidence in Him rather than in your own ability to believe. Yet watch carefully the words you use, for being in His image, our tongues have a creative force! Speak aloud, but speak truth!

I will keep my tongue from evil and my lips from speaking lies (Psalm 34:13). I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin. I will put a muzzle over my mouth as long as the wicked are before me (Psalm 39:1). Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from trouble (Proverbs 21:23). He who guards his lips guards his life (Proverbs 13:3). Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent; and discerning if he holds his tongue (Proverbs 17:28).

Do not be quick with your mouth. Do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God [especially against a neighbor]. God is in heaven and you are on earth. So let your words be few (Ecclesiastes 5:2). Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord. Keep watch over the door of my lips. Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil (Psalm 141:3-4).

If I speak, I shall speak the very words of God (1 Peter 4:11). The plans of the mind and orderly thinking belong to man, but from the Lord comes the wise answer of the tongue (Proverbs 16:1 Amplified). Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing (Proverbs 12:18). Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit [for death or life] (Proverbs 18:21). I love speaking God’s Word and I will bear much fruit.
