God’s Word can teach us to pray rightly — to move mountains and bring much glory to Our Father in Heaven

  • Praying When Trouble Comes

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3); my God; my Father!

In the day of trouble, let us seek Him in His dwelling place.

Blessed am I because I trust in You, O Lord; my confidence is in You. I am like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes. My leaves will be green and I will not be anxious, even in the year of drought, nor will I cease from yielding fruit (Jeremiah 17:7-8). All because You love me!

I did not receive a spirit that makes me a slave to fear, but received the Spirit of son-ship. And by that Spirit I cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself testifies with my spirit that I am a child of God (Romans 8:15-16). Therefore, since I am of a kingdom that nothing can destroy, I will serve God with thankfulness and holy fear and awe, for my God is a consuming fire (Hebrews 12:28).

I have no fear of the One who loves me perfectly. His perfect love for me eliminates all dread. If I were to fear, it would show I am not fully convinced He really loves me. There is no fear in love; His perfect love drives out all fear (1 John 4:18). And when I love others, His love within me grows ever stronger (1 John 4:12).

Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus, acknowledging You as my refuge and high tower.  You are a refuge and a stronghold in these times of trouble (Psalm 9:9). In the day of trouble You keep me safe in Your dwelling; You hide me in the shelter of Your tabernacle and set me high upon a rock (Psalm 27:5). Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident (Psalm 27:3). Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me (Psalm 27:7).

When I cry for help, O Lord, hear and deliver me out of my troubles.  You are close to the brokenhearted and You save those who are crushed in spirit — crushed with sorrow for sin and are humbly and thoroughly penitent.  Lord, many are the evils that confront me, but You deliver the righteous from them all (Psalm 34:17-19). Thank You so much for making me righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21).

My help comes from You, O loving Lord.  You are my all-powerful Father who made heaven and earth (Psalm 121:2).  I am glad as I rejoice in Your mercy.  I know You are aware of the troubles I face (Psalm 31:7), and because You are, I am able to come boldly before Your throne of grace, realizing I will receive Your mercy and grace to help me in my time of need (Hebrews 4:16).  I cast all my cares upon You because I know You care for me (1 Peter 5:7).  I know no weapon formed against me will ever prosper, for this is my heritage as Your servant, O Lord (Isaiah 54:17).

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, I know You will revive me, O Lord.  I believe You will stretch forth Your right hand and save me from my troubles (Psalm 138:7).  Father, I believe Your promise that all things work together for good to those who love You.  Thank You for calling me according to Your purposes (Romans 8:28).  I bless You, Father, for I know You are the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort.  Please comfort me in this time of trouble and tribulation. Help me to comfort others in the same way (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

Thank You so very much, my gracious and loving Father. Thank You for being merciful and gracious to me, O my God.  I will take refuge in the shadow of Your wings until storms are passed (Psalm 57:1).  At Your tabernacle I will sacrifice with shouts of joy. I will sing and make music to Your name, O Lord my God (Psalm 27:6).

  • Prayer and the Promises

The chief thing in prayer is the assurance that prayer will be heard and answered. The law of the Kingdom: he who asks, receives… Therefore, we must confidently expect answer to prayer. The Lord wants us to count on it that asking, seeking, knocking cannot be in vain. That Jesus thought it needful in so many forms to repeat this truth (Matthew 6:11-13; 7:7-8; 9:38; 18:19; 21:22) is a lesson of deep import! (Andrew Murray)

The vital connection between prayer and the promises: A promise should always be the basis of all our prayers, since the promises are our warrant for asking and our security for receiving what we ask for.  We have no authority to ask beyond what God has promised.

Let us train ourselves to speak God’s Word.  The Word tells us to be imitators of God as dear children (Ephesians 5:1).  We are to imitate God as a child does his father.  If a child imitates his father, he will walk like his father, talk like his father, and pattern his every move after his father.  We should do no less after our Father God. (Charles Capps)

“Our Heavenly Father, faithful to His Word.” Therefore to know the Father is to know His Word. Let us trust Jesus. If we take His words in simplicity and trust Him by His Spirit to make them within us life and power, they will so enter into our inner being as life and power. He will teach us in due time how to understand them fully; meanwhile, let us begin by implicitly believing them. (Andrew Murray)

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all I can ask or even imagine, according to His power that is at work within me, I give glory and honor and praise forever. AMEN. (Ephesians 3:20).

A daily confession to renew your thought life: I take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 10:5). I am not conformed to this world, but am transformed by the renewing of my mind so that I may know the will of God (Romans 12:2). I lay aside the old self and I put on the new self which is being renewed in the likeness of God (Ephesians 4:22-24). I trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).

The Lord will perfect that which concerns me (Psalm 138:8). I will accomplish what God has called me to do today. I fix my eyes on Jesus the author and finisher of my faith (Hebrews 12:2). I won’t be hijacked by lesser things but I will lay aside every encumbrance and sin that entangles, and I will run with endurance the race Christ Jesus has marked out for me (Hebrews 12:1).

Jesus is the Lord of my life. God is not weak toward me, but mighty in me (2 Corinthians 13:3). He is pushing me past any oppression or barrier that tries to hold me back. I am free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). And God has blessed me with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3), being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of my God (Colossians 1:10).

God has made available spiritual weapons to every believer – like the Name of Jesus, the Blood of Jesus, and the Word of God. The Lord has given us the authority of His Word – and in the Name of Jesus, things must change!

O Lord, be gracious to us; we long for You. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in times of distress (Isaiah 33:2).

  • Praying To Be Led

Prayer girds human weakness with divine strength, turns human folly into heavenly wisdom, and gives to troubled mortals the peace of God. We know not all of what prayer can do (Charles Spurgeon).

As we are led by the Spirit, things will become clear.

God wants us to see that ordinary people – you and me – can accomplish extraordinary things through prayer.

Jesus taught us to see God as “Father.” Jesus wants us to quiet down and really think about who we are addressing – the One who is above all, knows all, can see all; who wants us as His children, coming to Him and asking Him and depending on Him. “Our Father in heaven” not some remote, indifferent Sovereign, but a Father who taught earthly fathers how to love and care and listen and help their children.

There is no acceptable prayer until we can say “I will arise and go unto my Father” (Luke 15:18). This childlike spirit soon perceives the grandeur of the “Father in heaven.” The child lisping “Abba, Father” grows into the cherub crying “Holy, holy, holy!”

It is in a personal relationship to the loving God that prayer depends. It is in the knowledge of God’s “fatherliness” that the power of prayer will be found. Consecration to God, and His Will, gives liberty in prayer for temporal things, once the whole earthly life is given to the Father’s loving care.

The Father is longing to give the Spirit to us, if we will but ask in the childlike dependence on what He tells us. We need to ask for His special gifts and operations as we require them. As well as for Him to take entire possession of us, for His unceasing guidance. I must say in faith: I have what I ask, the fullness of the Spirit is mine! For what we have received and taken and now hold as ours, let us give thanks and continue steadfast in believing prayer that the blessing may breakthrough and fill our being. If there is one thing on earth we can be sure of, it is that the Father desires to have us filled with His Spirit, it is that He delights to give us His Spirit (Andrew Murray).

O Lord, to be honest, I am overwhelmed. I really wonder if I will ever be able to pray like Elijah (James 5:17-18). But, Lord, I truly want to learn. Please teach me how to pray fervently. Teach me the effective prayer of a righteous man that avails much (James 5:16). I’m going to ask and ask until it is mine (Luke 11:5-8). I know it is Your will. Thank You, therefore for hearing this prayer (1 John 5:14) that I ask in the name of Your Son, my Lord Jesus.

Your Word says the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace (Romans 8:6). You also tell me that we are controlled by the Spirit if the Spirit of God lives in us (Romans 8:9).  Your Word tells me to pray in the Spirit on all occasions (Ephesians 6:18), and to build myself up in my faith (Jude 20). My spirit is the candle of the Lord (Proverbs 20:27), and my spirit in me testifies that I am a child of God (Romans 8:16), born of the Spirit of God (John 3:5), filled with the Spirit of God (Ephesians 5:18), and led by the Spirit of God (Isaiah 48:17).

Therefore, I will listen to my heart as I look to my spirit inside me.  I am trusting the Holy Spirit to give direction to my spirit and illuminate my mind. As His love is perfected in me (1 John 4:12), I will have my anointing from the Holy One (1 John 2:20).

What a blessing it is to realize the same Spirit that raised my Lord Jesus Christ from the dead dwells in me (Romans 8:11).  Because Your Spirit dwells within me, Lord God, I am able to be led by Him (Romans 8:14).  Thank You for filling me with Your Holy Spirit, God Father. May I bring You a smile today as I learn to live by Your Spirit.

  • Walking in the Light

Lord God, You are the God who knows all things, and I desire to walk with You in Your wisdom.  Thank You for Your promise that when I call to You, You will answer me and show me great and mighty things (Jeremiah 33:3).  I ask You, please, give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You.  Enlighten the eyes of my understanding so I will know the hope of Your calling, and what are the riches of my glorious inheritance in the saints.  Thank You for Your promise that You will reveal to me the exceeding greatness of Your power toward me as a believer (Ephesians 1:17-19). I keep not the spirit of the world, but willingly embrace Your Holy Spirit that I may understand what You have freely given me (1 Corinthians 2:12).

His light shining through us creates such a bright and beautiful world!

Heavenly Father, You are light and in You there is no darkness to be found (1 John 1:5).  You are the Father of Lights, with You there is no variation, or shadow of turning (James 1:17).  I so desire to walk in Your light at all times.  As I walk with You in Your light, Lord God, I have fellowship with You and other believers, and the blood of Jesus, Your Son, cleanses me from all sin (1 John 1:7). Oh, to spend a day without sinning! As I obey His commandment, to love others, the darkness in my life disappears and the new light of life in Christ shines in (1 John 2:8 TLB).

Father God, I know that Christ Jesus is the revelation of Your plan for salvation kept secret from the beginning of time, but now revealed and made known through Your Word, so that all nations might believe and obey You (Romans 16:25-26).  For Jesus is a light of revelation, the Light that was intended to shine upon all nations (Luke 2:32). You give us the light of the knowledge of Your glory through Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6).

Father, Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105).  The unfolding of Your Word gives light; it gives understanding even to the simple (Psalm 119:130).  From this time forward I desire to walk as Your child of light, for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness and truth (Ephesians 5:8-9).  Because as I walk in the light, I will no more have fellowship with the fruitless works of darkness.  Rather I will reprove them and expose them (Ephesians 5:11).

Thanks to You, O loving Lord, I am one of a chosen generation, a peculiar people, that we may show forth the praises of Christ who called us out of darkness into Your marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9), that Christ, the Morning Star, will shine in our hearts (2 Peter 1:19).

If we believe in the Light of the world (John 12:46), we are children of light (John 12:36). Then we are all children of the light and children of the day; we no longer are of the night, or of darkness (1 Thessalonians 5:5). We should always be thankful to the Father who has made us fit to share all the wonderful things that belong to those who live in the Kingdom of Light (Colossians 1:12). “Wake up, O Sleeper, and rise up from the dead; and Christ will give you light!” (Ephesians 5:14)

  • Walking in Authority

Heavenly Father, thank You for the authority You have given me to be victorious over the enemy in every area of my life.  Through the authority given to me through the blood of Jesus (1 John 1:7), Your most holy Word (John 8:31-32), Your Holy Spirit (Luke 24:49), unfaltering faith (2 Timothy 1:5), and the blessed name of my Lord, Jesus Christ (Mark 16:17), I will always prevail over the enemy.  Hallelujah! I am more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus who loved me (Romans 8:37).

Can we be too powerful in using God’s Word?

With Your continuing grace, Lord God, I will be sober and vigilant, because I realize the devil, as a roaring lion, is walking about seeking whom he may devour.  With Your Spirit guiding me, I will resist him, steadfast in the faith You have given me (1 Peter 5:8-9).  I speak it out loud, Lord: I submit myself to You, Father God, and I resist the devil. Therefore I know he must be fleeing from me (James 4:7).  Thank You, Lord God, for giving such authority to Your people.

I will be bold against the devil, demons, evil spirits, sickness, disease, and poverty, for Jesus is the Head of all rule and owns authority over every angelic and natural principality and power.  Jesus made a bold display and a public example in His triumphing over them (Colossians 2:15).  I am bold to say “Satan, you are a defeated foe; for my Father God and my Lord Jesus reign!”

I dare to proclaim the Word of God towards heaven, towards Hell, and towards earth.  I boldly say: The Lord is my Helper, and I will not fear what man can do to me (Hebrews 13:6). I am a believer and not a doubter (Matthew 21:21) Jesus told me that as long as I have faith and do not doubt (Matthew 17:20) but believes that what I say will happen, it will be done for me (Mark 11:23). I will not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind (James 1:6).

My heart does not condemn me, so I have confidence before my God (1 John 3:21). This is the confidence we have in approaching our God: that if we ask anything according to His Will, He hears us (1 John 5:14). Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God Himself (2 Corinthians 3:4-5). Lord, You are my confidence (Proverbs 3:26). Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him (Jeremiah 17:7)!

I take the shield of faith – Your mighty Word – and I use it to quench all the fiery darts the enemy hurls in my direction (Ephesians 6:16).  I will overcome him at all times through the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony (Revelation 12:11).  With Your guidance, loving Father, I will refuse to believe every random spirit, and I will try the spirits to see whether they are from You (1 John 4:1).

How I praise You, heavenly Father, for the realization that the weapons you have given to me for spiritual warfare are not carnal.  Instead, they are mighty through You to the tearing down of evil strongholds.  I will use the weapons You have given to cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against knowing You, and with Your guidance I will bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).  Thank You so much, God of Peace, for crushing Satan under my feet, and for giving me the grace of my Lord Jesus Christ in all things (Romans 16:20).

Since I have such a great High Priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, I will hold boldly to the faith I profess (Hebrews 4:14), because in this world we are like Him (1 John 4:17). I decide to walk by faith and practice faith (2 Corinthians 5:7). This has been my practice, my desire: I obey Your precepts (Psalm 119:56). When I call, I pray You answer me, that You make me bold and stouthearted (Psalm 138:3). Because I love the Lord Jesus, I will fight the good fight!

  • Praying for Boldness

You have been my hope, O Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth (Psalm 71:5). Now I want to be known as “having been with Jesus”. Your Word tells me: “When they saw the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13).

Boldness is a quality that Jesus can instill in us: boldness before God’s throne and before our fellow men.

Father, I pray You enable me, Your servant, to speak Your Word with great boldness (Acts 4:29). Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so I will speak Your Word boldly (Acts 4:31). Like all the saints who came before me, embolden me also that I may argue persuasively about the wonders of Your kingdom (Acts 19:8) and teach others about the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 28:31).

Your Word states that I can fearlessly and boldly draw near to Your throne of grace, and receive mercy and find grace to help in good time for my every need (Hebrews 4:16). I have this confidence to enter the Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:19). In Him and because of my faith in Him, I dare to have boldness, courage, and confidence of free access to Your Throne (Ephesians 3:12).  I earnestly pray that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so I will boldly and fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which we are all ambassadors (Ephesians 6:19-20).

Jesus is the Author and Developer of my faith. I consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that I will not grow weary and lose heart (Hebrews 12:2-3).

Since I have been given fullness in Christ who is the head over every power and authority (Colossians 2:10), I come to Your throne with my petitions, and for others who do not know how to ascend to Your throne.

I want to be bold but not arrogant (2 Peter 2:10). I am confident of this, that He who began a good work in me will carry it on to completion (Philippians 1:6). We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first (Hebrews 3:14). So I will not throw away my confidence, for it will be richly rewarded. I only need to persevere so that when I have done the will of God, I will receive what He has promised (Hebrews 10:35-36).

Your Word says the righteous are as bold as a lion (Proverbs 28:1). I have been made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (Revelation 5:21), so I too can be bold.  Through His great redemption I am complete in Him (Colossians 2:10). Just as I received Christ Jesus as my Lord, I will continue to live in Him, to be rooted and built up in Him, to be strengthened in faith as I have been taught, and to overflow with thankfulness (Colossians 2:6-7).

  • Praying for Goodness

Thank You, O my God, for the precious faith I have obtained through Your righteousness.  May I know more and more of grace and peace as my knowledge of You and Your Son, Jesus my Lord, grows deeper (2 Peter 1:1-2), for Your divine power has given me all things that are necessary for living the truly good life, in allowing me to know the One who has called me to You through His own glorious goodness (2 Peter 1:3).

Let us radiate God’s goodness to a needy world.

It is through this generosity that Your greatest and most precious promises have become available to us men, making it possible for us to escape the inevitable disintegration that lust produces in the world and to share in Your essential nature (2 Peter 1:4).  This makes me so very thankful, Generous Father, for as a partaker of Your divine nature, through the indwelling of Your Holy Spirit (John 14:17), I am empowered to walk in the fruit of goodness (Galatians 5:22).

You said Your people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order that we may provide for daily necessities and not live unproductive lives (Titus 3:14), for I am Your workmanship, created to do good works (Ephesians 2:10). Those who seek the Lord’s help have all the good things they need (Psalm 34:10), because You satisfy thirsty souls and fill hungry souls with good things (Psalm 107:9). You do good, O Lord, to those who are good, to those who are upright in heart (Psalm 125:4). Your Word promises that he who seeks good finds goodwill (Proverbs 11:27). So I will seek to do good.

I desire to see many good days, so I will turn from my evil ways and do good, I will seek peace and pursue it (Psalm 34:12, 14). I will trust in the Lord and do good deeds, then I will dwell in the land peacefully (Psalm 37:3, 27). For You, Lord God, are a sun and shield; You bestow favor and honor; no good thing do You withhold from those who walk blamelessly (Psalm 84:11). You indeed give what is good, and my efforts will yield a harvest (Psalm 85:12).

You tell us that we are to hate what is evil and cling to what is good (Romans 12:9), to not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). Jesus, You told us to love our enemies, and to do good to those who hate us (Luke 6:27). You promise there will be glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good (Romans 2:10). For Your sake, I desire to be wise about what is good and innocent about what is evil (Romans 16:19).

Your Word tells us plainly: anyone who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins (James 4:17). Please encourage my heart and strengthen me in every good deed and word (2 Thessalonians 2:17) that I may not sin against You. Your Word says that If I cleanse myself from ignoble purposes, I can be a useful instrument prepared to do any good work (2 Timothy 2:21), and that I will be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:17).

How can I repay the Lord for all His goodness to me? (Psalm 116:12) – By spreading Your goodness to those who need to feel it! I want to be careful to devote myself to doing what is good (Titus 3:8). Above all I want to set an example (Titus 2:7), for Jesus gave Himself for us to purify for Himself a people that are eager to do what is good (Titus 2:14). I want to live such a good life among non-believers that they may see good deeds and glorify You (1 Peter 2:12). If I suffer, please direct me to commit myself to You, my faithful Creator, and then continue to do good (1 Peter 4:19).

So, giving all diligence, I will make every effort to add to my faith goodness (2 Peter 1:5).  As I let the Holy Spirit lead me, I know I will be able to walk in goodness at all times.  Thank You, O Lord my gracious God, for Your promise that these qualities will make my life fruitful and productive in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, my Savior and Lord (2 Peter 1:8).

For the fruit of Your light consists in all goodness (Ephesians 5:9). And I am convinced that I, too, am filled with goodness (Romans 15:14) because of Your light in me. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will remain in the house of the Lord forever (Psalm 23:6).

Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24) never forgetting to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased (Hebrews 13:16). Neither let us not become weary in going good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9). May Your saints rejoice in Your goodness, O my God. Clothe Your priests, Lord God, with salvation, and let Your godly ones rejoice in what is good (2 Chronicles 6:41).

  • Praying for Holiness

Thank You, Father God, for blessing me with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3).  In Jesus the whole assembly of believers is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord (Ephesians 2:21). I thank You that You chose me in Him before the foundation of the world so I could be holy and blameless before You in love (Ephesians 1:4). I will forever give unto You the glory due Your name, and I desire to worship You in the beauty of holiness (Psalm 29:2).

Let us stay on the path of holiness. It probably won’t be easy going, but His Word guides us.

Father, in the sweet name of Jesus, I commit myself to a sanctified life – a life of holiness, a life set apart, a life pleasing to You.  Your Word says to wash ourselves and make ourselves clean, to cease to do evil and learn to do well (Isaiah 1:16-17).  Your Word tells me: the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and the knowledge of the holy is understanding (Proverbs 9:10). Sanctify me, O Lord, through Your truth; for Your Word is truth (John 17:17), and the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good (Romans 7:12). God, I know You discipline me for my good, that I may share in Your holiness (Hebrews 12:10).

Please help me put on the new self, created to be like You in righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:24), for Jesus has reconciled me by His physical body – through His death – to present me holy in Your sight (Colossians 1:22). Christ loved the church and gave Himself willingly for her (Ephesians 5:25), to present her to Himself as a radiant church without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless (Ephesians 5:27). So I repent and, with Your graces, will turn from every sin in my life and wash myself with the water of Your Word (Ephesians 5:26).

Lord Jesus, sanctify me through Truth.  I submit myself to You, Lord – spirit, soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23).   I commit to change whatever needs to be changed in my life, because the desire of my heart is to be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, sanctified, and fitting for the Master’s use and prepared for any good work (2 Timothy 2:21).

Father, thank You for Your divine power, which has given me all things that pertain to life and godliness through knowing You and the Lord Jesus.  Thank You for calling me to glory and virtue, and for giving me Your exceedingly great and precious promises which enable me to be a partaker of Your divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4).  This astounding promise is what enables me to walk in holiness.

For You did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life (1 Thessalonians 4:7). Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, let us fix our thoughts on Jesus (Hebrews 3:1), our high priest who meets our needs – One who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens (Hebrews 7:26). Let us make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; for without holiness no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).

Thank You, Lord God, for Your promise that we may eat the good of the land, when we are willing and obedient to You (Isaiah 1:19). In You our hearts rejoice for we trust in Your holy name (Psalm 33:21).

May He strengthen our hearts so that we will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all His holy ones (1 Thessalonians 3:13)!

  • Heeding the Call to Holiness

Holy, holy, holy are You, Lord God Almighty (Revelation 4:8). For You alone are holy (Revelation 15:4).  Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of His glory (Isaiah 6:3). O God, I exalt You and I worship You, for You are holy (Psalm 99:9).  Who is like YOU, O Lord – majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? (Exodus 15:11). You are enthroned as the Holy One; You are the praise of Israel (Psalm 22:3). Holiness becomes Your house, O Lord (Psalm 93:5). May all who are godly be happy in the Lord and give glory to His holy name (Psalm 97:12).

For You are mighty and have done great things for me; holy is Your name (Luke 1:49), Come, O my soul, and worship the Lord with the beauty of holiness (Psalm 96:9). Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me bless His Holy Name (Psalm 103:1). Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto Your holy name, and to triumph in Your praise (Psalm 106:47).

I want to build myself up in holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit (Jude 20). Just as You called me – and You are holy – so I want to be holy in all I do; for it is written: “Be Holy, because I am holy” (1 Peter 1:15-16). Like living stones, it was intended for us to be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood offering spiritual sacrifices to our God (1 Peter 2:5); a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people set apart (1 Peter 2:9).

Sanctify us through Your truth; for Your Word is truth (John 17:17), that I may serve You in holiness and in righteousness all the days of my life (Luke 1:75). So I give my body to You, O God, to be a holy, living sacrifice – the kind You will accept (Romans 12:1). For it is from You that I have life through Christ Jesus. He made me acceptable to You; He made me to be pure and holy (1 Corinthians 1:30). Your Word says: “God’s home is holy and clean,” and I am that home (1 Corinthians 3:17). With these promises, I know I must cleanse myself from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, so You can perfect holiness in me (2 Corinthians 7:1).

Israel – even the new Israel – is “holy unto the Lord” and the first-fruits of His children (Jeremiah 2:3), for if the first-fruits are holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root be holy, so are the branches (Romans 11:16).

The Holy Spirit has been given to me (Romans 5:5). Now I must let myself be a slave to all that is right and holy (Romans 6:19); I am now free from the power of sin and am a slave of God, and His benefits to me include holiness (Romans 6:22).

Your Word tells us that “a main road will go through the once-deserted land; it will be named ‘The Holy Highway.’ No evil-hearted men may walk upon it.” You will walk there with us; even the most stupid will not be able to miss the way (Isaiah 35:8). In that day of Your power Your people shall come to You willingly, dressed in holy array (Psalm 110:3). I truly want to be part of that assembly!!

  • Praying for Wholeness of Mind

Father, my heart is filled with gratitude for all You have done for me.  You have qualified me to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of Your light (Colossians 1:12).  You have delivered me from the power of darkness and have translated me into the kingdom of Your dear Son (Colossians 1:13).  Through the blood of Jesus, You have provided me with redemption and forgiveness for all my sins (Colossians 1:14).

Love for Jesus fills us – to overflowing.

Thank You, Father, for Jesus who is the perfect image of Yourself, and He is the first-born over all creation (Colossians 1:15).  By Him all things in heaven and in earth were created; all things were created by Him, and for Him (Colossians 1:16). Jesus is before all things and by Him all things hold together (Colossians 1:17).  Jesus is the faithful witness, the ruler of all the kings of the earth (Revelation 1:5), as well as the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End of everything (Revelation 22:13).  From the fullness of His grace we have all received one blessing after another (John 1:16).

I am so thankful, Father, that it pleased You to let all fullness dwell in Your Son, Jesus (Colossians 1:19).  Thank You that, through His blood, peace with You is now possible. Through Jesus You have reconciled all things to Yourself; all people on earth, and all souls in heaven can now be gathered to You (Colossians 1:20).

Through His great redemption I now have wholeness.  Indeed, I am complete in Him (Colossians 2:10).  Just as I received Christ Jesus as my Lord, I will continue to live in Him, to be rooted and built up in Him, to be strengthened in faith as I have been taught, and to overflow with thankfulness (Colossians 2:6-7). In every part of my life, Father, I ask You to help me to give Jesus the preeminence in everything (Colossians 1:18) that He deserves.

As Your chosen people, holy and dearly loved, I ask You to send Your Spirit to clothe me with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience (Colossians 3:12). I know we are to bear with one another and forgive whatever grievances we have against others. We are to forgive as You, Gracious Father, forgive us (Colossians 3:13). And above all these virtues, please teach me to put on love, which binds all of them together in perfect unity (Colossians 3:14).

For I know these are the weapons of my warfare; these weapons are not carnal, but mighty through You to the pulling down of strongholds – intimidations, fears, doubts, unbelief, and failures (2 Corinthians 10:4).  I wish to refute every argument and theory and reasoning and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the true knowledge of You; and I want to lead every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Today I pray to be transformed by the renewing of my mind, that I may prove what is Your good and acceptable and perfect Will (Romans 12:2).  Let not Your Word, O Lord, depart out of my mouth, but direct me to meditate on it day and night, that I may observe to do according to all that is written therein.  Then I shall make my way prosperous; then I shall have good success (Joshua 1:8), for the plans of the diligent certainly lead to profit (Proverbs 21:5).

So I will not fret or have anxiety about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, I will continue to make my wants known unto You, O gracious Lord, and Your peace which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over my heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).  Today I fix my mind on whatever is true, worthy, honorable, just, pure, lovely, kind, winsome, and gracious.  If there is any virtue and excellence, anything worthy of praise, I will think on and weigh and take account of these things (Philippians 4:8) that I may bring You a smile!
