Praying to Follow Jesus

In Jesus the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily, and I have been filled by Him, who is head over every ruler and authority (Colossians 2:9-10). Father, You are the supreme authority – a God of order and peace (1 Corinthians 14:33), a God of hope who fills us with joy and peace (Romans 15:13).  It is my decision to surrender my will to You that I might find protection and dwell in the secret place of the Lord Most High (Psalm 91:1) and experience Your peace.

Ah, the peace of following Jesus. He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul.

Father, You deserve honesty from the heart (Psalm 51:6).  Yes, utter sincerity and truthfulness.  Please give me this wisdom.  Sprinkle me with the cleansing blood and I shall be clean again.  Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow (Psalm 51:7).  You have rescued me from the dominion of darkness and brought me into the kingdom of the Son of Your love, in whom I have redemption, the forgiveness of my sins (Colossians 1:13-14).

Father, You gave Jesus to be my example.  Now He has returned to You and has sent the Holy Spirit to be my Helper and Guide.  In this world there are temptations, trials, and tribulations.  But Jesus has overcome the world, and I am of good cheer because of that (John 16:33).  I choose to take up my cross and follow You, Lord Jesus (Matthew 10:38).  I desire to lose my lower life on Your account that I might find the higher life (Matthew 10:39).

I belong to Jesus Christ, the Anointed One, who breaks down and destroys every yoke of bondage.  In His name and in obedience to Your Will, Father, I submit to the control and direction of the Holy Spirit whom You have sent to live in me.  Jesus is my Lord.  I choose to become His servant.  He calls me His friend (John 15:15).

Dear loving God, I love You and I desire to be filled with all Your fullness.  Therefore, I kneel before You, good God, my Father, and the Father of my Lord Christ Jesus, from whom the whole family in heaven and on earth is named.  Please grant to me, according to the riches of Your glory, that I would be strengthened with all might by Your Holy Spirit in my innermost being.  May Christ Jesus dwell in my heart by faith so I, being rooted and grounded in that love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints the breath, length, depth and height of Christ’s love for me and for the world.  Father, please enable me to know and experience fully the love of Christ, which surpasses all human knowledge; and fill me with all Your fullness.  Thank You, Lord, for always being present with me.  Thank You, Father, that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all I ask or think, according to Your great power that is at work within me.  Thank You exceedingly, O Lord my Father, for this working in me.  Unto You, O God, be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. (Ephesians 3:14-21)
